Located in Southwestern Florida, Marco Island is the largest among the thousands that surround this location. Lining the Gulf of Mexico, the small Island can only be accessed by two bridges that connect it to the mainland but otherwise remains inaccessible, except by boat. This area offers miles of white sand beaches as well as several access points to Everglade National Park. Marco Island is a heavily visited area loved by tourists and locals alike. It offers a tropical climate with palm trees, water, exotic animals, and adventure that you are sure to enjoy.
This beautiful area has plenty of excitement to offer anyone willing to visit. One of Marco Island's biggest attractions is Cape Romano, a small collection of bizarre-looking buildings located in the middle of the water. These odd, UFO-shaped buildings were originally built by a retired oil worker as vacation homes but were not there long until they were hit by several different storms, including Hurricane Wilma. Although these buildings are likely to be covered by rising water one day, these interesting structures continue to be used by fishermen and visiting tourists and are only accessible by boat. These alien-like buildings are an amazing sight to visit, but hurry quick, who knows how long they will last!
Exploring the Ten Thousand Islands wildlife refuge is just another exotic adventure that is waiting to happen. Rent a kayak, canoe, or boat and travel down one of the many hidden waterways provided by this beautiful area. These Islands are home to countless exotic creatures and you might just spot some if you're lucky! Look out for sea otters, alligators, crocodiles and manatees, all creatures that are indigenous to this area.
Scuba Diving is also an activity that can be enjoyed in this tropical setting. Scuba Marco is a shop that provides lessons, day trips and all sorts of scuba equipment. Don't know how to dive? No problem. Scuba Marco offers a 90-minute introduction session followed by a trip out on a diving boat for a real-life diving experience! For the diver's with plenty of experience, Scuba Marco provides all the equipment you could need such as masks, fins and so much more!
Dolphin tours are another popular event on Marco Island and there are plenty of places that offer a trip out on the water to view these amazing creatures. The Dolphin Explorer is a dolphin survey company that performs a long term study of the numbers, movement, and behavior of bottlenose dolphins in the area. Along with studying these mammals, the Dolphin Explorer also offers tours in which guests are allowed to participate in studies, view the animals and even receive complimentary shelling bags and cold beverages for the ride!
With all the adventure there is to be had in Marco Island, it is hard to limit yourself, so plan to stay a while! The luxury, beauty, and excitement of this island won't disappoint and you are sure to have the time of your life!
